SEEDINGS

Commissioned by
Lauderdale House

for
Waterlow Park festival

Summer 2000

A large lime tree had been felled in the park and a section of trunk was used to carve the piece. The form reflects on the numbers of mothers, babies and small children who use the park. It was designed around themes of seed pods and fecundity and also to provide a seating place for adults and an exploring one for small children.
The carving of the piece was something of a public event as the work site was positioned next to a main path. People returned regularly to check progress and several local people ended up working as enthusiastic carvers.
